Trendy Local Snack, Is it Healthy?
Hi, Friends of SlimGourmet! Nowadays, there are so many local foods with new taste & appearance to attract people especially young adults as well as to maintain our local culture, for example Kue Cubit, Kue Pancong, Martabak Manis, and etc. Recently, those snack modified with Western food taste with some ingredients addition like cream/dairy products and a lot of sugar.
Indonesian local snack food usually made of flour and other carbohydrates source for example cassava, sweet potato, potato, and corn. High carbohydrates food itself has given big calories in our body, for example 2 pieces of potato in moderate sizes (210 g) contains 175 calories, it equals with 1 piece of cassava (120 g), 5 tbs (50 g) wheat flour, and 100 g white rice. Usually, those snack processed with some ingredients addition like cream/dairy products and a lot of sugar, so it will be high calorie snack food.
So, if we eat a big portion of those snack, the calorie contained will be higher too.
Therefore, it is important to know other ingredients that mixed in those snack foods. Choose snack that processed with steamed/boiled/baked so it can reduce oil use in cooking process. Then, don’t choose fatty snack food as well as snack that are too sweet or too salty. You also can avoid snack food that uses too much butter, sugar, condensed milk, or jam. Lastly, we hope that you have great self-control so you eat in a proper portion.
